Peer Mentoring In The York Schools
Peer Mentoring is a unique opportunity for our students in the York schools. This program encourages and promotes building friendships with younger students and offers our students an opportunity to talk openly about their aspirations and challenges.
One of the unique aspects of peer-to-peer mentoring is the power of mutual support. York High School Peer Mentors are there to listen and create a safe space for our younger students. It’s not just a mentor guiding a mentee; we find it is a reciprocal relationship built on trust. Often, Peer Mentors understand the challenges and struggles that their peers face because they may have experienced them themselves. Peer Mentors meet weekly, working one-on-one with a student or in small groups to encourage creating new friendships and offering a space to create healthy discussions and communication.
